BMW M6 in Singapore : Numbered Beast [Release]

Singapore. Munich Automobiles Pte Ltd – the world’s first dedicated BMW M dealer – today announced the arrival of the new BMW M6 Coupé in Singapore.

“The new BMW M6 has been designed out of a passion for elite performance and an appreciation of exclusive style. Powered by a high-revving V8 engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology, the BMW M6 Coupé generates 560hp and 680Nm of torque, with the ability to complete the century sprint in just 4.2 seconds,” said Mr Joel Chang, Executive Director of Munich Automobiles Pte Ltd.

BMW's fastest convertible - the M6 Convertible [Driven]

It is hard to believe that after 30 years BMW has only just launched its third generation M6. In 1984 they revealed the first generation “M6” E24 which actually went by the name M635i in Europe though in the US it carried the M6 name. And history would have stretched back even further if you wanted to make the case for the 1973 3.0 CSL, though it did not carry the M-name it was really a Motorsport developed car with a 3.4-litre 360 bhp 24-valve engine(in 1973!). Alas the M635i was to be the only “M6” with a manual transmission and used the M88 race engine from the M1. It took a long 16 years after production of the M635i stopped before BMW attempted the second generation in 2005 with the E63/64 M6 which used the glorious V10 from the E60 M5. It used a 7-speed SMG III gearbox to transmit the power.

Today's F12 M6 Convertible comes hot on the heels of its predecessor again using the M5's drivetrain. However it is not the normal aspirated V10 but a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 producing a mighty 560 bhp between 6000-7000 rpm. Turbocharged engines produce prodigious torque and the M6's 680 Nm while not class leading is still impressive and would present a huge challenge to harness it all with just two driven wheels.

History - BMW's 40 Years of M

The BMW M Story. 40 Years of BMW M GmbH.

“A company is like a human being. As long as it goes in for sports, it is fit, well-trained, full of enthusiasm and performance.” These were the words of Robert A. Lutz, BMW AG Board Member Sales, back in 1972. They were the words christening the youngest subsidiary of BMW AG at the time, BMW Motorsport GmbH. Today the company is called BMW M GmbH. But it is just as fit, well-trained, full of enthusiasm and performance as it was 40 years ago.

BMW's finest - the M3 GTS [Driven]

How on earth did BMW and M GmbH make such an expensive M3? It is double the price of a normal M3. You wouldn't want to pay another fifty percent more for a special M3, it is just not that great a car to start with or would you? This would not be a good start for the GTS if we have such negative thoughts.
