Meng Tai Katong Laksa- at Ghim Moh Food Center

Sometimes wondering around a food centre will lead to a discovery or two and this laksa stall is just one of those. Actually we were just put off by the long queue at the char kway teow stall nearby and decided to have something else, laksa.

Mellben Seafood- Blk 211, Lor 8 Toa Payoh #01-11 to 15

This restaurant has garnered a cult following of sorts. It may be short on presentation but the food and the service makes up for it and more. The boss-lady, Kelly works tirelessly to make sure all patrons get their food and service. No air-con seating but there are open air tables. The star dish has got to be the Shimmering Crab, one of the 14 ways they cook crabs but it is most certainly the best. It has a creamy sauce but its has a hint of curry, basil, oatmeal and a dash of chilli padi and whatever else that makes it taste so good.

Old Malaya Cafe- 313 Orchard Road #B3-10 313@Somerset S238895

Well, well its the invasion of the Malaysian-style cafes. We found this little gem at B3 of 313@Somerset. Its sort of hidden away but worth your while to find it. It brings some Malaysian favourites over to us like the KL Curry mee, Penang rojak and Kat-chai lingmong (sour plum-lemonade).The Popiah is really good and tasty with sweet sauce and garlic aplenty. Our attention was drawn to the desert section where one can get a really substantial Chendol with just the green "worm" jelly and red beans.

Birraria Pizza Caffe; 4 Via Arco, 20121 Milan, Italy

Milan is a place full of fancy restaurants but sometimes you just want a decent traditional pizzeria. Here we ambled onto a side street cafe that serves up a decent pasta without the fancy price tag. Only locals go there so it should be good.

The main we ordered was a steak with rucolla salad on the side. It may not knock your socks off but it has good beefy taste and isn't pricey at all. They don't ask foreigners how the meat should be done but they do it just right- about medium.

Lam's Abalone Noodle Restaurant : 18 Kaki Bukit Rd, 3 Enterpreneur Business Centre #01-16/17

Popped over to this slightly less accessible branch of the Lam's chain.

The ingredients were fresh and the noodles, nicely done. The abalone chunks were a nice touch.

Each bowl averages $6 and we supplemented this with roast pork and duck.

Eatalian Restaurant- 15500 S. Broadway Street,CA 90248 Gardena

It might look like an unlikely place for an Italian restaurant but if the food tastes this good, location doesn't matter too much. This is no cosy, family Italian restaurant, it is very business like and looks like a factory cafeteria but do not let that fool you.The pizza is the thin crust variety just like the real thing in Italy and it tastes like the good stuff too. The cheese they use is actually made in-house right there in a glass-windowed room right next to the restaurant so customers can see.

Meat in Ubi : 306 Ubi Avenue 1

this little old-school looking eatery is far off the beaten path, so there were none of the lunch hordes that you typically encounter closer to the main road.

had wanton noodles and the char siew was a good cut and the noodles nicely al dente.

definitely will re-visit to try the roast duck noodles, which the other table ordered.

there's also an ice dessert kiosk here, probably the only one in the immediate vicinity.

Amici Italien Restaurant, Lautenschlagerstraße 2 70173 Stuttgart, Germany 0711 2270292

Stuttgart is a long way from Italy but there is an Italian restaurant call Amici which is within one minute walk from the Hotel Graf Zepplin as it is just behind it. There is of course a fusion style menu but one can always select traditional dishes.

The steak is nice, tender and juicy if a little short of the taste that characterizes the best Italian examples. But here in the middle of Germany who's quibbling.

Cube Restaurant, Kleiner Schlossplatz 1, 70173 Stuttgart

Right beside the Schlossplatz is the Stuttgart museum building with its glass facade. On the topmost floor resides a Michelin star restaurant called the Cube. It is a fusion style menu but it is one to die for. The cold cuts for example is a perfect selection that is never overwhelming and is in harmony with what one sees. We recommend the grilled Lamb chops which comes served as a rack of lamb and is so succulent and delicious with out being gamey.

Macarons in Singapore

We're huge suckers for home-baked/cooked offerings, so when the opportunity came up to sample some home-baked macarons... we were all over it!!

Ok ok, so i was thick-skinned enough to PM the creator of these luscious lovelies for the chance to sample her tasty morsels, but we're glad we did it because they are great!

Because this is a hobby (as opposed to a business), the batches can be rather sporadic and the flavours... eclectic, which are both fine in our books.
