Infinite Dreams : Infiniti FX50 S [Driven]

Lexus knows a thing or two about branding, especially when it comes to butting its head against the long-standing prejudices of consumers in an otherwise European-dominated premium segment. Today, Lexus' result is nothing short of spectacular, since the Japanese mass-market giant has ably proven that when it sets its mind to achieve something, it doesn't compromise til it gets there, even if this may mean burning huge wads of cash in the process (look at its F1 programme for instance, or even the intensive engineering work that has gone into the LFA).

The evolution of Lexus models through the years has resulted in a distinct brand personality and range of products that go far beyond badge-engineering, which also means nobody can accuse it of co-branding its models with its mass market sibling, Toyota, or even worse, with another brand, be it in the domestic market or elsewhere in the world. In the premium segment, it's less about quantitative benchmarks and more about the essence of the brand, so ticking off equipment levels and performance prowess, while relevant in its own right, kind of misses the point once one crosses a certain price threshold.

Kia rear-driven GT at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011 [Release]

Powerful, dynamic and forward-looking, Kia’s new concept car signals the company’s distinctive new design direction. This four-door sports sedan with a rear-wheel drive layout – a Kia first – marries sleek and muscular proportions with a sophisticated and elegant four-seater cockpit.

Although work on the Kia GT concept first started in November 2010, the idea of a powerful rear-wheel drive Kia saloon had been percolating in the minds of Kia’s European designers for some time.

“This concept allows us to explore exciting new design directions, as using a rear-drive layout creates very different proportions compared to a front-wheel drive car,” says Peter Schreyer, Kia’s Chief Design Officer. ”The classic front-engined, rear-wheel drive layout of a performance saloon has distinct appeal not just for the domestic Korean audience, but also for the European and American markets.”

Mansory Zapico [Release]

It's not only for four-wheeled luxury vehicles that the top-quality range from high-end manufacturer MANSORY has received awards; its genuine custom bike is famous too. This is shown most impressively by the MANSORY bike Zapico, developed in collaboration with bike customiser Thomas M. George.

The hand of company boss Kourosh Mansory is plain to see: the finest carbon, most lavishly processed, decorates the impressive-looking cruiser while the front mask, bug spoiler, seat module, primary shield and silencer as well as the applications on the fuel tank, the frame, fork, wheel rims and airbox all originate from the MANSORY factory in the town of Brand in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria. The bike's leatherwork is further testament to the exquisite craftsmanship applied – unmistakeably MANSORY.
