Subaru reintroduces WRX STI for 2014 [Relaese]

Unveiled at the Detroit motor show earlier today (14 January) the new WRX STI is based on the WRX saloon car launched at the LA show in November, but with some significant enhancements. During development, Subaru honed the driveability of the new WRX STI to perfection, testing it under a wide variety of conditions around the world. As with past generations of the model, extensive testing also took place on Germany's Nürburgring circuit to ensure the WRX STI is the pinnacle of Subaru AWD sports performance.

WRX Concept - good news from Subaru [Release]

After its showing at the NY Motor Show earlier this year, Subaru intends to give the Europeans a viewing at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The WRX concept hints at the final look of the next-generation WRX, a bold and muscular design giving it a strong on-street presence.  Lower, wider and sleeker than previous models, the WRX Concept places an even greater focus on sharp handling, with a low centre of gravity and Subaru’s famous All-Wheel Drive system.

STI S206 [Release]

After the R205, which was based on the hatchback, STI hits back again with the S206 that is now based on the sedan body-type.

As much as the new shape continues to polarise opinions, we've found the outrageously flared body of the STI sedan growing on us... and we don't mean 'growth' in the wart sort of sense either.

The last S204 was based on the GD sedan and was virtually mechanically identical to the earlier S203 save for the former's lighter kerbweight. By that time, the local Subaru distributor had already gravitated towards the 2.5l for the STIs, so the S204 was one of the few opportunities to enjoy the manic EJ20 JDM engine, which also finds its way into the S206.

Subaru's FR Sports Car [2011 Geneva Motor Show]

Behind the new level of driving excitement that the “Rear-Wheel drive (RWD) Sports Car”, which is currently under joint development with Toyota Motor Corporation, delivers is Subaru’s new platform technology concept: the “BOXER Sports Car Architecture”.

Built around Subaru’s core technology – the Horizontally-Opposed Boxer engine, a new platform was developed in order to extract the maximum performance potential required of the RWD Sports Car.

The RWD Sports Car is a new generation sports car being developed with an ambition of Subaru and Toyota to provide driving pleasure to a wider range of customers. Thanks to its “front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout”, further lowered centre of gravity, compact and lightweight body, it delivers a new level of driving excitement with very unique crisp handling.

By now, it's no big secret that we're huge fans of the estate/wagon shape. Some continue to turn up their noses at it, but in any case, these types tend to gravitate towards vehicles that are capable of more overt posturing (even if it's something like a 1.6L Korean coupe), as opposed to the outright 'utility' of an estate.

Two-fingered Pete could probably comfortably tally up the 'handful' of GG Impreza WRX wagons' here in Singapore. If memory serves us correctly, the total population consists of just this car and a gun-metallic one.
